MealBound

Privacy Policy

Effective October 1, 2026

In short

  • Your recipes, meal plans, and grocery lists stay on your devices and in your own iCloud account.
  • The developer does not collect, receive, or have access to any of it.
  • Searching Discover or importing from a web address sends your search terms or that address to the relevant service; nothing else about you is sent.
  • MealBound has no accounts, no ads, no analytics, and no tracking.

Who this policy covers

This policy applies to MealBound (the "App") for iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch, created by Alexander Rohr (the "Developer").

Information you enter

MealBound stores the information you enter or import, such as recipes, meal plans, grocery lists, and ratings.

This information is stored on your device. If iCloud is turned on, it is also synced through your private iCloud database using Apple's CloudKit, so it is available on your other devices signed in to the same Apple Account. Data in your private iCloud database is managed by Apple under Apple's Privacy Policy. The Developer cannot see or access it.

MealBound does not operate any servers, and the App does not send your recipes, meal plans, or grocery lists to the Developer or to any third party.

If you use the Apple Watch app, your upcoming meals and grocery lists are sent from your iPhone to your paired Apple Watch by Apple's WatchConnectivity, and items you check off on the watch are sent back the same way. Siri and Shortcuts answer "What's for dinner" from the meal plan already stored on your device. Your list of pantry staples is stored on your device.

Recipe import and discovery

MealBound includes optional features that connect to outside services:

  • Import from URL: the web address you paste is requested from that website so its recipe content can be read into the App. The Developer does not see this request.
  • Discover Recipes: your search terms and filters are sent to TheMealDB and Spoonacular to find matching recipes. These are third-party services with their own privacy practices.
  • Photo import: on-device OCR reads the text in a photo you choose or take. The photo is processed on your device and is not uploaded.

Information collected automatically

The App does not collect usage statistics, device identifiers, IP addresses, or location, and it does not include any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking software.

If you have chosen to share analytics with app developers in your device's settings (Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements), Apple may provide the Developer with anonymous crash reports and performance data. These reports do not include your recipes or meal plans. You can turn this off at any time in the same settings screen.

Device permissions

MealBound asks for permission before using these features. Each one is optional and can be changed in Settings at any time.

  • Camera: to photograph a printed recipe for import. Images are processed on your device and are not uploaded.
  • Microphone and Speech Recognition: to add grocery items by voice. Audio is processed to convert your speech to text and is not stored by the Developer.
  • Reminders: to add your grocery list items as a Reminders list you can check off while shopping.
  • Notifications: to alert you when a Cook Mode timer finishes and, if you turn them on, to remind you about tonight's dinner and tomorrow's meals. These notifications are created and scheduled on your device. They are not sent through any server.

Sharing your information

Your information is shared only when you choose to share it, for example by emailing a recipe, sharing it with another MealBound user, exporting your grocery list to Reminders, or printing a meal plan. Where it goes from there is up to you.

Purchases

MealBound Pro is a one-time in-app purchase processed by Apple through the App Store. The Developer does not receive your payment information.

Keeping and deleting your information

Your information stays in the App until you delete it. You can delete individual recipes, meal plan entries, or grocery lists in the App. To remove everything, delete the App and remove MealBound's data from iCloud in Settings › [your name] › iCloud › Manage Account Storage.

Because the Developer never receives your information, there is nothing held by the Developer to delete.

Security

Your data is protected by your device's security and by iCloud's encryption. No system is perfectly secure, so keep your device passcode and Apple Account protected.

Links to other sites

The App and this website may link to other websites, including recipe sites you import from. Those sites are not operated by the Developer, and their own privacy policies apply.

Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
